PRICE GUIDE
How do Hong Kong gold prices work? Start with units and direction
Hong Kong physical-gold boards commonly show HKD per gram or tael alongside dealer selling and buyback prices. Before comparing, check that the unit and currency match and that you are looking at the right price for buying or selling.
Quick answer
Check whether the quote is per gram or tael, whether it is for buying or selling back, and when it was updated. Your actual price is the one confirmed when you lock it or complete the transaction in store.
Three fields to check first
Weight comes first. Gram and Hong Kong tael quotes cannot be compared until they use the same unit.
Direction comes next. A customer buying physical gold normally looks at the dealer sell price; a customer selling gold back looks at the buyback price.
- Currency: a CNY comparison is different from the HKD price used for a Hong Kong purchase.
- Time: an old screenshot is not a current quote.
- Product: size, brand, certificate and packaging can affect total cost.
Why spot gold and store prices do not move identically
International spot gold is commonly quoted in USD per troy ounce. Hong Kong physical products add exchange rates, unit conversion, product specification and the dealer spread.
Use the live board to follow the market, then confirm the available price and how long it remains valid when you are ready to trade.
